Your Driving Test

Congratulations on getting to this stage!

Here are a few important points about your test booking.

  • Continued progress and driving standards
    • Your test booking is subject to your continued progress in lessons.
    • Your progress will be reviewed regularly and if you do not maintain a high standard then we will move your test date.
    • You will not need to pay again for moving the date so long as at least three working days notice are given.

  • Test fees and lesson fees
    • The test fee is payable to the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). Your instructor may have paid this on your behalf.
    • The normal lesson fee is still payable on the day of your test for the pre-test lesson and use of the car during your test.
    • Unless otherwise agreed, this will be charged as a two-hour lesson.

  • Cancellations due to examiner illness or operational reasons
    • If your test is cancelled by the DVSA with more than three working days notice then you may cancel your booking with your instructor without penalty.
    • If your test is cancelled by the DVSA with less than three working days notice then the booking with your instructor will still go ahead, the lesson fee will still be payable, and the booking will be treated as a standard lesson.
    • Your instructor will assist you in claiming the lesson fee back from the DVSA so that you are not out of pocket.

  • Cancellations due to bad weather
    • If your test is cancelled at short notice due to poor weather then the booking with your instructor will still go ahead, the lesson fee will still be payable, and the booking will be treated as a standard lesson.
    • Unfortunately, when the DVSA cancels a test for bad weather, you are unable to claim expenses from the DVSA.
  • Rebooking following a cancelled test
    • When a test is cancelled by the DVSA, a new test date is automatically issued.
    • There is no guarantee that this date will be convenient to your instructor, and it may need to be altered following a discussion between you and your instructor.
  • Things to remember to bring to your test
    • Driving licence. If you forget your licence, the driving test will be cancelled and you will lose your driving test fee.
    • Theory test pass certificate. (Candidates are rarely asked to produce their theory pass certificate to the examiner on the test, however, the test booking letter does state to bring it. If you can find it, brilliant. If you can’t, don’t worry too much).
    • Glasses (if you wear them)
    • A drink
    • Remember to eat something beforehand.
